About Us

Founded in 2020, Mission:MathMinds originally started as a virtual mentoring program to address the important need for increased support in math education for students, specifically girls, during the global COVID-19 pandemic. The Mission:MathMinds Mentoring Program is a combination of high school female students mentoring girls in elementary, middle, and high school. With a focus placed on increasing passion and enjoyment for math rather than direct accuracy, our Mentoring Program develops long-lasting relationships between mentors and mentees that encourage interests in math. On the other side, mentoring, the Mission:MathMinds Mentoring Program is an incredible opportunity for high school girls to excel in community service as students are exposed to several service-oriented and leadership opportunities/events and receive service hours for their mentoring. Mission:MathMinds is also an honored Presidential Volunteer Service Award Certifying Organization. The impacts from our Mentoring Program have been tremendous: growth in standardized-testing scores and school grades, increases in sessions showing improved commitment, increases in engagement in math sessions, and real differences in attitudes towards math.

However, as the pandemic began to decline, the direct need for virtual one-on-one math mentoring simultaneously decreased as well as our community was not able to commit to weekly sessions as more in-person commitments opened back up.

To adjust to this switch, Mission:MathMinds shifted their efforts towards in-person events including mentoring bootcamps that focus on the application side of math, conferences, community-related events such as the Palatine Jaycees Hometown Fest Booth, Book Drive for Ukrainian Refugee Children, and more. Mission:MathMinds is not only an organization committed to increasing interest in math from females, but also a proud community service-centralized organization. With recognition and support from high-level figures including Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL 8th District), and many others, Mission:MathMinds is a growing community of empowering females ready to create the next generation of female leaders.  Today, Mission:MathMinds focuses our efforts on increasing participation from girls in math through their new approach to STEM called METS, where math is put first because we believe it is the foundation for the other branches of engineering, technology, and science. Our extension organization, FemaleRoleModels.Org directs their efforts towards empowering girls through representation from various female role models and their messages.
